Official Description & Notes

n this video, we break down the steps to transform the fractional equation into a product of two integers, making it easy to find every possible value for a + b.
How to Solve It
Clear the Denominators: Multiply the entire equation by 13ab to get:

13b + 13a = ab
Rearrange the Terms: Move everything to one side:

ab - 13a - 13b = 0
Apply the Factoring Trick: To factor this, we add (13 \times 13) to both sides:

ab - 13a - 13b + 169 = 169

(a - 13)(b - 13) = 169
Find the Factors: Since 169 is 13^2, its factors are (1, 169) and (13, 13).
Calculate a + b: * If (a-13)=1 and (b-13)=169, then a=14 and b=182. Sum = 196.
If (a-13)=13 and (b-13)=13, then a=26 and b=26. Sum = 52.
