Notes:

Written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey, and released in 1973, this absolutely classic song was one of Eagles' earliest hits, and it sounds as good today as it did then.

There's a repeating pattern throughout: alternating between the plain G chord and the G6 chord. You'll hear it immediately from the first bar, but you really want to get the "feel" of how to strum it from the recording. The rhythm of it doesn't need to be notated precisely, it's much better to get it by listening and matching the groove of the existing track.

On the guitar, that pattern is not difficult, but it's critical to get it right. The G chord is as normal as can be, but the G6 requires you to not only move the index finger from the 5th to the 4th string (easy enough!), but ALSO, to mute the 5th string with your second finger - you DON'T want to hear the open A (5th) string in the G6 chord! Also, that index finger really wants to "hammer on" the note in the G6 chord, so it's audible even without being strummed at the precise instant.

That said, we've notated the G/G6 pattern throughout most of the song, but not everywhere - it's pretty quiet in the verses and some other places, so it's really up to you - feel free to play it anywhere it feels right to you, or even not at all!

And finally, until you're comfortable with that movement, it is TOTALLY acceptable to simply omit the G6 altogether, and just continue playing a plain G chord whenever the G6 occurs. The song will still sound great!
